We now offer the following services within male health:

  • Vasectomy
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Circumcision (infant and adult)
  • Hormone Testing

Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a permanent method of male contraception. It involves cutting both the tubes (vas deferens) that carry live sperm from your testicles.

The procedure is normally performed under local anaesthetic and only takes around 15-20 minutes. The consultant makes 2-3 small incisions via the scrotum or groin. He will cut the tubes and close the ends with stitches, clips or cauterise if deemed necessary.

The procedure may involve slight pain or bleeding; however, this is a safe and effective operation.

Your doctor will ask you to give two semen samples that are required post procedure to confirm success and further details about this will be discussed at your consultation.

Infant Male Circumcision

Our Circumcision Service is CQC accredited and approved by the Greater Manchester Quality Assurance programme.

The service is welcomed by the local community and is of special benefit to the local population as infant male babies are circumcised on cultural or religious grounds.

This service is for babies between 2 weeks to 18 months of age.

Both parents are asked to sign an informed consent for their son’s procedure, and both must be in attendance on the day.

A Plastibell procedure is carried out by our Consultant Mr. Marghoob under local anaesthetic. The procedure takes place in a dedicated minor surgery room. Parents may be allowed only on special permission.

Parents are given written advice and information. They receive a follow-up telephone call a few days later. No further follow up is arranged but all parents are encouraged to ring back if there is any concern at all until the ring falls off.
